(PDF) – The outcome of the recently held London Conference has widely been viewed as undermining India’s stance towards Afghanistan. There was considerable emphasis on reintegration of elements of the Taliban, including the pledge of $500 million for these efforts. More importantly, President Hamid Karzai spoke of his desire to convene a “grand peace jirga”—a tribal assembly to which he hopes to invite some Taliban leaders and persuade them to lay down their arms. New Delhi is uncomfortable with the more grandiose ideas of reconciliation bandied about by the Coalition as the solution to the vexatious situation
