A delicate issue: Asia’s nuclear future – ASPI
Over coming decades, Asia is likely to become the dominant influence shaping the global nuclear order, and to bring to that order the characteristics of its own strategic relationships. As it does so, the global nuclear order will move further away from bilateral nuclear symmetry—the dominant nuclear relationship of the Cold War—and towards a set of multiplayer, asymmetric relationships. That doesn’t automatically mean we’re heading into a more dangerous world, but we are headed into a nuclear order of which we have little previous experience
